A BRIEF BIO...
Russell Garrett is currently the Artistic Director of Foothills Theatre Company in Worcester, MA... an intimate regional theatre in Central Massachusetts. He recently oversaw the 2006 - 2007 season which opened with his hit production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW and included the New England regional premieres of GEORGE M. COHAN TONIGHT! and THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS - THE MUSICAL! as well as IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE - A LIVE RADIO PLAY (also directed by Mr. Garrett) and the smash hit BUDDY! THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY.
Prior to this position, Russell worked around the country as a director/choreographer. Among his credits are a smash hit production of PAGEANT for North Coast Repertory and a subsequent remount for Cygnet Theatre in San Diego, the successful revues SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', and IDOLS OF THE KING for Sierra Repertory in Sonora, CA, BEEHIVE for both Foothills Theatre in Worcester and a subsequent remount for The Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, ME, KISS ME, KATE for Moonlight Stage in San Diego, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and a critically acclaimed hit production of CHICAGO for The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, and for Skylight Opera in Milwaukee record-breaking hits of ANYTHING GOES and CHICAGO (hailed as one of the 10 Best in Milwaukee Theatre for 2002).
As an actor, Russell has performed all over the world in a variety of shows, countries, and venues that include Broadway, a 2000 year old Roman amphitheatre in Israel, Radio City Music Hall, and a dilapidated soccer field in Sardinia. Originally from San Diego, Russell made his Broadway debut in the stage version of SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS. He later appeared in the Broadway musicals 42ND STREET and THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. Off-Broadway credits include BENT and ELEGIES FOR ANGELS....,though he is best remembered for originating the role of Miss Texas in the hit PAGEANT. He has toured the country more times than he can remember in tours of Hal Prince's SHOW BOAT, A CHORUS LINE, 42ND STREET, SEVEN BRIDES..., LI'L ABNER, and THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. He traveled to Japan with both MY FAIR LADY and PAGEANT and was a part of the first English language tour of Europe of A CHORUS LINE. Regionally he has been seen at the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey, The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, and Actor's Theatre Louisville. His more recent acting roles have included the one-man play ANOTHER AMERICAN: ASKING AND TELLING, Monty in THE IT GIRL, Mr. Gilmer in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, Ernst in the American regional premiere of the Sam Mendes/Rob Marshall's production of CABARET, Lord Evelyn in ANYTHING GOES, Phileas Fogg in AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, and Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN. On television you may remember him (underneath a huge wig and LOTS of makeup) as a transvestite street-walker on the second season of NBC's LAW AND ORDER.
